About Valerie Rose

Valerie grew up playing violin, ukulele, guitar, and piano, and singing harmonies. She has performed as a soloist and in orchestras, bands, and choirs since childhood, and studied violin with Slavko Śilič.

She performs extensively throughout the Bay Area, playing Irish, classical, contradance, Balkan music, and more. Valerie is also a conductor, violinist, arranger, and vocal soloist for the Gryphon Carolers, a unique San Francisco Bay Area choir that presents fun and innovative music for the holidays in their annual concert at Cañada College.

She teaches private violin students and is also an instructor during the summer at California Coast Music Camp. She enjoys helping students in developing a real connection to the violin, exploring different styles of music, and putting it all in context with an understanding of music theory.

Valerie is also an experienced recording artist. She has released several recordings of her own and been a guest performer on recordings by other artists. A track from her CD Petals of Stone was selected by Silicon Valley Walk for AIDS for its fundraising CD Sounds for Hope. Her band Thornhill Road was featured in the “Best of 2007” episode of The Irish & Celtic Music Podcast. Videos and gig calendar at Valerie Rose Irish Band.
